FCC Seeks Comments on Technical Requirements of Reassigned Numbers Database

The FCC is currently seeking comments on the technical requirements for the Reassigned Number Database (“RND”) that was recently approved by the North American Numbering Council (“NANC”). The RND, which is being established by a 2018 order issued by the FCC, seeks to address issues surrounding unwanted calls to consumers with numbers reassigned from previous consumers.

The RND seeks to be a comprehensive database that will contain reassigned number information for carriers that obtain telephone numbers in accordance with the North American numbering plan. Businesses that engage in direct consumer telemarketing will be able to use the finished database to determine whether a number they intend to text or call was recently reassigned.

The deadline to submit comments is February 24, 2020, and reply comments are due on March 9, 2020. Comments may be submitted via mail or electronically on the FCC’s website.
