M&S is excited to announce the formal launch of its Medical Marijuana Law & Policy group to respond to the growing opportunities and legal needs presented by the expansion of marijuana legality in Ohio and across the nation.
For more than a decade, the M&S team has been at the forefront of consumer protection regulation, leveraging its expertise as former state regulators to help clients in similar highly regulated industries manage their compliance demands. With the 2016 legalization of medical marijuana in Ohio, the firm has already been helping clients capitalize on entrepreneurial opportunities and defend against litigation and administrative actions. With broader legalization on the horizon, the formation of this group allows us to serve the expanding legal needs of our existing and future clients.
Led by former Ohio Consumer Protection Chief Sandy Lynskey, the Medical Marijuana group will guide clients safely through this complex and politically-sensitive landscape, providing comprehensive legal counsel on federal and state regulation and other aspects of the industry arising at its intersection with consumer protection law. This includes helping our clients:
- Understand federal, state, and local regulatory obligations;
- Evaluate the risks associated with varied compliance strategies;
- Obtain and renew required licensing;
- Assess, develop, and enhance formal compliance programs;
- Work with regulators to bring concerns to quick resolution; and
- Defend against regulatory enforcement actions and litigation.
“As the implementation of Ohio’s medical marijuana program finally becomes a reality, we understand the impact these new laws and policies will have on every business, whether participating in the industry or not,” said M&S Partner Helen Mac Murray. “We are precisely positioned to help clients take advantage of the enormous opportunities presented while navigating the regulatory challenges associated with complex and conflicting local, state, and federal governments.”
M&S has received national recognition for excellence in law, and was most recently named to U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 “Best Law Firms” list, as well as recognized as one of Central Ohio’s Top 50 Women-Owned Businesses. M&S is certified as a women-owned business by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) and is a member of the National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF).
