This marks a decade of Best Lawyer recognition for Founding Partner Helen Mac Murray. A former Chief of the Ohio Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Section, Helen has been a leader in the consumer protection arena for more than two decades and now uses her experience and insights to focus on the defense of state, federal, and multistate consumer protection investigations.
Founder and Managing Partner Michele Shuster has again been recognized for her achievements in Consumer Law. Also a former Chief of the Ohio Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Section, Michele brings more than two decades of experience in consumer protection with an extensive background in the teleservices industry. She advises clients on proactively managing federal and state consumer protection demands and routinely conducts regulatory compliance audits and provides counsel on a wide range of advertising, marketing, and privacy issues.
Previously named a Best Lawyer “Attorney of the Year,” former Ohio Attorney General and Of Counsel Attorney Betty Montgomery received continued recognition in the area of Government Relations Practice. Betty has earned a national reputation for her focus on protecting consumers, and today focuses her practice on helping clients understand and meet their regulatory compliance obligations and representing them before state regulators across the country. Her distinguished career in public service includes 26 years in elected positions and several “firsts,” including serving as Ohio’s first female Attorney General and first female Auditor of State.
Newly-recognized this year are Partners Nick Whisler (Privacy and Data Security Law) and Lisa Messner (Consumer Law). Leading the firm’s Compliance practice, Nick brings more than a decade of experience helping clients understand and comply with federal and state privacy, advertising, and telemarketing laws and regulations. He works closely with in-house counsel, compliance professionals, executive management, and marketing personnel to identify and address both internal and external sources of regulatory compliance risk.
As the firm’s Litigation Director, Lisa’s practice focuses on class action defense, complex commercial litigation, consumer protection, and privacy laws and regulations. With more than twenty years of experience, Lisa successfully defends clients in highly regulated industries against government enforcement matters and class actions across the country.
Partner Josh Stevens has been recognized as One to Watch in Communications Law for the third year. Bringing insight from experience as an in-house attorney, Josh helps clients in wide-ranging industries understand and comply with privacy, data security, and other consumer protection laws.
